Virtual Chair Pilates with Mary Therese

Join Mary Therese Royal, a nationally certified Pilates instructor, for this workout session.

During this class, we will take mat exercises and modify them for the chair for an easy introduction to the method.  We will end with some standing leg work and balance work using a chair. This is a gentle workout to learn about proper muscle activation and spinal alignment in order to build strength and flexibility.

You will need a chair and a hand towel or a dynaband for for this class. You will also need light weights (you can substitute with water bottles) weighing one to two pounds each. Wear comfortable clothing. No prior experience is needed to attend this class.

Instructor Bio

Mary Therese has been practicing and teaching Pilates since 2008. Over her life, she has engaged in many different forms of exercise. Each of these exercise regimens provided some physical benefits; however, none of them completely transformed her body. And to be honest, none of them were particularly fun. In her search to try new things, she came across Pilates and began mat work at home. She immediately noticed changes in her core strength and flexibility.

She believes everybody can benefit from Pilates. She enjoys teaching those at the very beginning of their journey as well as bringing new challenges to seasoned clients. She currently teaches classes and individual sessions at The InnerSpace Pilates Studio in Avon, CT.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Farmington Libraries.
