Frequently Asked Questions

Farmington and Unionville residents may fill out an application at either library location – The Farmington Library, 6 Monteith Dr, Farmington or Barney Library, 71 Main St, Farmington. Library cards are valid for three years. Bring a photo ID or piece of mail with your Farmington/Unionville address.  Find out more about getting a library card here.

To login to your Library Account visit the library catalog and click on “Login”. You will then need to enter your 14-digit library card number in the “Library card number” field and then your pin. 

Your PIN may be set to the last four digits of your library card. If you have a PIN has not been set, leave the PIN field blank and click Submit to create a new PIN.

You can renew online through our catalog. Select "Login" and enter your library card number and pin.

Materials may be renewed if there are no reserves on them.

  • Log in to your account
  • Select items to renew by clicking in check boxes to the left of each title you want to renew
  • Click on "Renew Marked"
  • Click "Yes" on the next screen to complete renewal
  • Note which items have been renewed

To place a hold visit our catalog and login to your library account.

  • Search for the item in the catalog
  • Select the Request it button on desired item
  • Log into your account  (if you haven’t already)
  • Select the specific library item you'd like (if applicable)
  • Select the pickup location/library
  • If you have a specific date you need the item by, check the Deadline box and enter the deadline date (note: if you do not receive a hold by this date, your request will be deleted). If you do not have a deadline, leave this box unchecked
  • Select Submit

There are return slots located outside both the Main Library and Barney Library.  At the Barney Library the slot is located to the right of the front doors, at the Main Library it is located to the right side of the handicap spots in front of the building.  Some items (such as crafting kits, tablets, and other Library of Things items) may need to be returned inside the library, please double check before returning to an outside slot. 

Once logged in to your account, you can Opt-IN to a feature that will track your reading history. This will keep a list of all items you check out from any library in our consortium from that moment forward. You will be able to view this list by going to Reading History on the left side of the screen.

Note: Library staff will not have access to this list. You can export your list and/or Opt-Out at any time.

The Farmington Libraries have materials to download from Overdrive (Libby App), Hoopla, Tumblebooks and more.  Be sure to have your library card number handy to login.  Visit our Download and Stream page for more information.

If the book is older and not located in the catalog we can try to get it through interlibrary loan. 

Interlibrary loans can be requested by Farmington residents by calling the Adult Information Services Department at 860-673-6791. We only can request items from public libraries in Connecticut. We obtain all our items from the Connecticut State Library catalog. Items are checked out for three weeks, while DVDs are loaned for 7 days. New items are not available via interlibrary loan. Patrons are limited to 3 items per month.

Library Computers are available for 1 hour with your library card or a guest patron ID.  Printed Documents and Photocopies are 20 cents per page for black & white copies, 50 cents per page for color. Our Fax Machine is self-service and requires use of a credit card. To find out more about visit our Computer & Printing page.

The Library has a number of Book Club titles available for loan, please contact Information Services at 860-673-6791 or visiting the Information Services desk on the second floor of the Main Library for more information.
