Virtual Chair and Mat Pilates with Mary Therese

During this class we will start in the chair with some gentle stretching and strengthening, adding light weights for upper body work.  Then we will move to the floor.  Please have a mat or towel to place on the floor.  You may even double up and use two mats to be more comfortable.  We will learn how to use the core muscles while lying down.  We will begin with gentle full body stretching and then start some core strengthening moves with several modifications for those new to this type of exercise.  We will move on to some leg work and seated extension.   We will come up to standing to finish the class.

Please have chair to start out with and a small pillow or yoga block to sit on while we are on the floor.  Also have your dynaband or hand towel ready as well as 1 lb. or 2 lb. weights.  Don’t worry if you do not own weights.  You can even use small water bottles or no weights at all.

Instructor Bio

Mary Therese has been practicing and teaching Pilates since 2008. Over her life, she has engaged in many different forms of exercise. Each of these exercise regimens provided some physical benefits; however, none of them completely transformed her body. And to be honest, none of them were particularly fun. In her search to try new things, she came across Pilates and began mat work at home. She immediately noticed changes in her core strength and flexibility.

She believes everybody can benefit from Pilates. She enjoys teaching those at the very beginning of their journey as well as bringing new challenges to seasoned clients. She currently teaches classes and individual sessions at The InnerSpace Pilates Studio in Avon, CT.
