Friends of the Farmington Library
Book Sale 2011
The Friends of the Farmington Library are pleased to report that they had a very successful Spring Book Sale which raised $16,000!
This sale would not have been so successful without the dozens of volunteers who worked the week of the sale as well as throughout the year. Over the years the Friends have amassed a huge database of interested people who enjoy working this event. The continued support and hard work of this group is gratefully appreciated. The Friends would also like to thank all those members of our community for their donations of books for which the success of all our sales is so dependent. A heartfelt THANK YOU to book donors and volunteers!
Our next sales are tentatively scheduled for:
October 15 - Kids & Cook Books
November 19 – Nearly New Books
If you were unable to shop this sale, the Friends maintain an on-going bookstore, the 'BOOK NOOK' located to the right of the circulation in the hallway to the Community Room. This area is re-stocked frequently throughout the week and features both fiction & non-fiction, hardcover and paperback books for adults & children as well as special seasonally appropriate materials.
The Friends of the Farmington Library are always seeking new members or volunteers for our activities. Please contact the library at 860-673-6791 or by email at: friends@farmingtonlibraries.org.
Friends Gifts to the Library 2010
During 2010 the Friends of the Farmington Library have been very active & successful in raising monies for a variety of library needs through 3 book sales, June Garden tour and our annual membership drive. We cannot begin to thank all our volunteers, townspeople and local businesses for their continued support of our many activities. We are very proud to be able to fund the following this year:- Annual Gift to library operating budget $6000
- Barney Library Renovation $5,240*
- Library Programs - $2,875 paid (1 quarterly payment) with another $8,625 committed
We are also involved in promoting literacy in our community and beyond. We supported the collection of new books for the "Giving Tree" for the Catholic Charities of Hartford. And, books not sold at our major book sale were contributed to state prison libraries, the Farmington Senior Center and other local charities.
